Frequently asked questions

Is Relay free to use?
Yes. Relay is free and needs no account. Your files are stored by the hosting provider you choose (Gofile by default), and Relay itself never stores them.
Do I need to sign up?
No. Uploading with Gofile needs no account or API key. If you switch to file.io in the settings, you will need a free file.io account to get an API key.
How big can my files be?
Limits are set by the host, not by Relay. Gofile does not advertise a per-file size limit for guest uploads, and file.io limits depend on your plan. Very large uploads also depend on your connection and browser.
How long does a link last?
You choose: one hour, one day, seven days, thirty days, or never. Hosts may still remove files that go unused, according to their own policies.
Is it private and secure?
Uploads use HTTPS and links are unlisted, but anyone who has a link can open the file and files are not end-to-end encrypted. Avoid uploading sensitive information and use an expiry time.
Can I delete a file after sharing it?
Yes. Use the trash icon next to the file in your upload list. This works in the same browser you uploaded from, because the delete token is saved there.
Does Relay keep a copy of my files?
No. Files go straight from your browser to the host you selected. Relay's servers never receive them.

Terms of Service

1. About Relay

Relay ("we", "us", the "Service") at share.base31.org is a web interface that lets you upload files from your browser to a third-party file hosting provider, such as Gofile or file.io, and get a link you can share. Relay does not host, store or receive your files. Files travel directly from your browser to the host you choose.

2. Accepting these terms

By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, to use it.

3. Your files and your responsibility

You are solely responsible for the files you upload and the links you share. You confirm that you own the files or have permission to share them, and that sharing them does not break any law or anyone's rights. Because we never receive your files, we do not claim any license or ownership over them.

4. Prohibited use

You may not use the Service to upload, share or distribute:

  • Illegal content of any kind, including any sexual content involving minors. We report such content to the relevant authorities.
  • Malware, ransomware, phishing kits or anything designed to damage devices or steal data.
  • Material that infringes copyright, trademarks or other intellectual property rights.
  • Private or intimate content about a person without their consent, or content that harasses, threatens or doxxes others.
  • Spam, or automated bulk uploads that put unfair load on the Service or the hosts behind it.

You also may not try to bypass limits, probe or attack the Service, or use it in a way that breaks the terms of the hosting provider you select.

5. Third-party hosts

Uploaded files are stored and served by the host you pick (for example Gofile or file.io). Their terms, privacy policies, size limits and retention rules apply to your files. Hosts may delete files, disable links or change limits at any time, and we do not control that.

6. Links and sharing

Anyone who has a link can open the file. Links are not encrypted end to end and are not a substitute for a secure transfer of sensitive information. Use an expiry time, and do not upload anything you would not want a stranger holding the link to see.

7. Your browser data

Relay remembers your upload list, settings and, where the host provides one, a guest or API token in your browser's local storage so you can copy or delete links later. Anyone with access to your browser profile can use those tokens. Keep your device secure and clear the list on shared computers.

8. Availability and no warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Service or any host will be uninterrupted, error-free or that files will remain available.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, files, profits or revenue, arising from your use of the Service or of any third-party host. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us (which is zero for the free Service) or US$10.

10. Indemnity

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims, losses and expenses arising from files you upload or share, or from your breach of these Terms or of anyone's rights.

11. Reporting abuse and copyright

To report illegal or abusive content, or a copyright complaint, email hello@base31.org with the link, what is wrong, and how to reach you. Because files are stored by the host, the fastest fix is also to report the link to that host directly. We will review reports promptly and may point you to the right host, and we may restrict access to the Service for repeat abuse.

12. Changes to the Service or terms

We may change or stop the Service, and update these Terms, at any time. The effective date above shows the latest version. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the new Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of Relay is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect.

Privacy Policy

Effective September 20, 2026

The short version

Relay has no accounts, sets no cookies, shows no ads and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. We do not receive your files, and we do not sell personal data. Your files go from your browser straight to the host you choose.

1. What happens when you upload

When you add a file, your browser sends it directly to the hosting provider you selected (Gofile by default, or file.io). That provider receives the file, its name and type, your IP address and technical details such as your browser, under its own privacy policy. Relay's servers never see the file or the link. Read the host's policy before uploading: Gofile and file.io.

2. What Relay stores in your browser

To work without an account, Relay saves the following in your browser's local storage on your device only:

  • Your theme, chosen host, expiry and other settings.
  • A list of your uploads: file name, size, link, upload time and expiry.
  • A guest token issued by the host, or the file.io API key you enter, so you can delete files or set expiry.

This data is not sent to us. Tokens and API keys act like passwords, so treat your browser profile accordingly. You can remove the list with "Clear list", delete a file from the list, or clear this site's data in your browser settings at any time.

3. What our hosting provider may log

Like any website, the server that delivers this page may keep standard logs (such as IP address, browser type and request time) for security and to keep the site running. We do not use these logs to profile you.

4. Cookies and third parties

Relay sets no cookies and loads no third-party scripts, fonts or trackers. The page contacts a third party only when you upload, delete or expire a file, and only the host you selected.

5. How we use information

We do not collect personal information through the Service, so there is nothing for us to use, share or sell. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply and, for abuse reports, to investigate.

6. Retention and deletion

Files remain on the host until they expire or you delete them, subject to the host's own retention rules. Data in your browser stays until you clear it. To delete a file, use the trash icon in your upload list, or contact the host directly.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Because we hold no personal data about you, requests about uploaded files must go to the host that stores them. You can email us and we will help you find the right place.

8. Security

Uploads and downloads use HTTPS. No link-sharing service is fully private: anyone with a link can open the file, so avoid uploading sensitive information, and use an expiry time.

9. Children

Relay is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. The effective date above shows the latest version, and material changes will be reflected here.
